Chetham’s Symphony Orchestra embarks on a tour to mark the conclusion of the school’s extensive Britten centenary celebrations in three special ‘Britten Double-Bill’ performances in Lichfield, Manchester and Cheltenham.
The Bridgewater Hall programme features Britten’s Violin Concerto with Chetham’s soloist and rising star Callum Smart, and a rare performance of Britten’s highly dramatic Ballad of Heroes for tenor solo, chorus and orchestra with Richard Dowling, Chetham’s Chorus and Members of St. George’s Singers. Shostakovich’s defiant Fifth Symphony completes the programme and symbolises the strong friendship between two of the most significant composers of the last century.
