Leaving A Legacy

Remember Chetham’s School of Music in your Will to leave a lasting impact on future generations of musicians.

At Chetham’s School of Music, we are reliant on the invaluable generosity of our supporters to fund many activities that are integral both to the service we provide to our students, and the musical culture of the nation. Remembering Chetham’s with a gift in your Will is an excellent way to make a truly significant impact on future generations of young musicians.

A legacy to Chetham’s can be directed to many different areas, but legacies made for general purposes are particularly valuable, as we can channel your support into the projects that are in most need at that time. However, if you wish your legacy to be used to fund a specific area of the Chetham’s experience, here are some ideas:

  • Providing bursaries for young musicians of the future
  • Funding the purchase of new instruments for Chetham’s
  • Preserving the heritage of the medieval buildings on the Chetham’s estate
  • Future capital projects to develop and enhance facilities

There are many different kinds of legacies, including a gift of a specific amount of money (pecuniary), all or part of the net residue of your estate (residuary) and non-monetary items.

You could also choose to donate money from your pension fund if you have no dependants, by nominating Chetham’s as a beneficiary.

We would be happy to talk to you to explore which area of support would mean the most to you; please contact us using the details below. We do, however, recommend you seek professional legal advice to guide you through the process of leaving a legacy.

Chetham’s School of Music is a registered charity (number 526702) which means that your bequest is not liable for inheritance tax.

At Chetham’s, we are often fortunate enough to be bequeathed musical instruments, sheet music and recordings, left to us by people across the country. While we are very grateful for items of this nature, we regret that we cannot always accept them, due to limitations on space and the specific needs of the school. We would therefore always advise you to get in touch with us before writing specific items such as these into your Will so that we can discuss with you what the best course of action would be to ensure that your musical items are used in the way in which you intend.

We would find it very helpful to hear from you if you plan to leave a legacy to Chetham’s. The below form is not legally binding, but just indicates your present intentions, thereby enabling us to plan for the future. It also ensures that we can keep in touch with you, update you on the latest news from Chetham’s, and thank you for your future gift.
