As a concert artist Murray McLachlan (www.murraymclachlan.com) has received international critical acclaim for intelligent and sensitive interpretations and superb technical ability, appearing as soloist with most of the leading UK orchestras. He has received invitations to tour all five continents and his vast discography has received long-standing international recognition. His numerous CDs have won accolades, including full star ratings, as well as ‘rosette’ and ‘key recording’ status in the latest Penguin Guide to CDs.
He is Head of Keyboard and tutor in piano at Chetham’s School of Music as well as Artistic Director of the internationally celebrated Chetham’s International Summer school and festival for Pianists (www.pianosummerschool.com). His new international concerto competition for young pianists was launched in Manchester in the summer of 2007 and will be staged for the second time at Chetham’s and at the Royal Northern College of Music with Manchester Camerata in August 2009. Murray McLachlan is prolific as a writer on issues connected with performing, repertoire, piano teaching and technique. He is editor of Piano Professional magazine and Chair of EPTA UK (European Piano Teachers’ Association). Many of his former students are now professional colleagues and enjoy successful careers as musicians, teachers and performers.
