The Chetham's School of Music Brass Band was formed in 1991 under the guidance of John Dickinson, former Head of Wind, Brass and Percussion. Since then the band has worked regularly with guest artists such as Howard Snell, Tormod Flaten, Chris Houlding and is currently directed by David Thornton (Principal Euphonium of Black Dyke Band and Euphonium Tutor) and David Chatterton (Head of Brass and Percussion).
The department has always seen the brass band as a vehicle to extend and challenge the talents of our brass and percussion students and repertoire such as Eric Ball's Resurgam, Phillip Sparke's Year of the Dragon and John McCabe's Cloudcatcher Fells have all been performed during recent years.
The Brass Band rehearses every week, and recently performed a Film Music programme at a local concert conducted by John Dickinson. They also performed in a fund-raising concert for Francis House Children's Hospice in the splendid surroundings of Manchester Cathedral.
