Instrument Days

We run an annual series of days focusing on single instruments, instrumental families or specific ensembles. These bring together instrumental teachers and young players for workshops, lectures, a chance to meet and connect through open sessions and all important dialogue. The sessions for young players have been enormously successful and are designed for beginners, intermediate and advanced students. They very often incorporate free masterclasses by acclaimed musicians and teachers from across the world.

Recent events have included:
Brass & Percussion Ensembles Day (Saturday 14th November 2009)
Woodwind Day (Saturday 23rd January 2010)

Forthcoming events are (click the links for further details and downloads):

Guitar Weekend (20-21st March 2010)

N.B. We are sorry to announce that the Electronic Keyboard Day that was due to be held on 6th March has been cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances, however do watch this space as we will hopefully try to organise this event for another date in the future.

More of these days are being planned, so keep visiting our website to view details as they are announced.

Below follow just a few quotes from attendees of our recent Woodwind Day:

"I just wanted to drop a quick line to thank you for a completely wonderful day on Saturday! It was so well organised and Charlotte had the most inspirational time! She hasn’t put her flute down since! Richard was a fabulous teacher and the group sessions were a delight".

"I just wanted to say "thank you" to all the staff and students at Chetham's who took part in Woodwind Day. I accompanied my children, Elias and Hermione Bolland, and I was impressed by how helpful and pleasant all the student helpers were. I managed to lose my phone and a child and was successfully reunited with both! My children both came home enthusiastic about learning to play an instrument and feeling that they had learnt a great deal in such a short space of time. I was struck by how well staff dealt with complete novices (in my children's case) and how they shared their enthusiasm for music. I feel that we came away sharing your passion to "love to live to play". Hermione now wishes to take up the saxophone and Elias wishes to continue with the recorder and was thrilled to have been awarded one at the end of the day. Please pass on my thanks to all concerned."

"What a fantastic day - thank you very much indeed!!! Megan absolutely enjoyed the whole day - can't wait for another one - she is looking forward to the concert at the end of March to see more woodwind instruments and listening to the concert and seeing how very clever people are. Megan is looking forward to her lesson on the flute prize that she won. It is an instrument she has always wanted to play and is now completely smitten. Please can you let me know of any other days - what a fantastic way to introduce children to the world of music. Thank you to your staff and students who were so helpful and kind for all their hard work to make this day so special. It is a day Megan will not forget".

"I just wanted to say a big thank you for yesterday. We all thoroughly enjoyed the day, especially Nia. Her father and myself were so shocked that by the end of the day she had the confidence to stand up in front of an audience to play the recorder - which she had never played seriously before, she only ever messed about with a toy one. She is also usually very shy, but by the end of the day her confidence had built up so much that she was putting her hand up to answer questions! It is her birthday soon and the only thing she wants now is a recorder! Your team worked wonders".

"My family and I spent a very enjoyable afternoon at the recent Woodwind Day and my daughter was thrilled to have been selected for a music lesson. We feel that she has benefited under the guidance of Richard Davis and would like to thank him for this. My first thought when we arrived was that it was worth the visit to see the building and how well preserved it is. At the end of the afternoon the concert was excellent - and all for a modest £5. We have booked for the Anniversary Celebration Concert on March 8th and are looking forward to this. Once again thank you for a great day out".
