February 2010 - Week 17

Summary of Progress

The majority of the bulk excavation has now been completed and the differing ground levels required for the construction of the main building are now set. The final stage is for a 300mm layer of granular fill to be spread over the site to ensure consistency.

All the steel whalers and ground anchors have now been installed and the Lancashire Yorkshire Railway wall should now be appropriately supported to enable the main works to commence.

Parts of an overflow culvert has been exposed across the North / South line of the land. We intend to review the condition of the culvert by a CCTV survey prior to the main works starting.

We also conducted a condition survey of the River Irk culvert running beneath Walker’s Croft, this is in order to record its condition before the works start.

The temporary bus shelter and hoarding graphics have now been installed, we are looking to insert vision panels in the hoarding this week to enable the public to see how we are progressing.

The enabling works are scheduled to complete on 5 February 2010 and we feel we have addressed some of the potentially more risky elements of the scheme by undertaking this successful project.
