BBC Young Musician - Winner!

Trombone player Peter Moore sensationally became the youngest ever winner of the BBC Young Musician of the Year 2008 at the competition Finals at the Wales Millennium Centre. His performance of Tomasi's Trombone Concerto and a contemporary piece, Sang till Lotta by Jan Sandstrom, demonstrated not only his highly impressive musical ability, but also his maturity and dedication in a stunning performance that unanimously won him the title of overall winner.

Peter now becomes the youngest person to ever win the BBC Young Musician of the Year, a title previously held by a former Chetham's student, Jennifer Pike, violin.

"When my mum said I should enter I thought she was off her rocker.  But when they called my name out, I couldn't believe it – it felt like a dream.  It was the opportunity of a lifetime, and it went to me."

- Peter Moore

Jim Molyneux gave an individual and exciting contribution to the event as the percussion finalist, performing Michael Tortke's concerto Rapture and as his solo piece, one of his own compositions called Midsummer Haze on the marimba.  His choices reflected his diverse interest in music and delivered a performance that was captivating to watch.

Both Peter and Jim will perform at Wigmore Hall in the Autumn.
