Woodwind Brass & Percussion
Flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone, recorder, horn, trumpet, trombone, euphonium, tuba, percussion
Around 100 students study in Chetham's Woodwind, Brass and Percussion Department. In addition to the development of an individual secure technique, the opportunity to experience all forms of music alongside core classical training is central to the programme. We value keeping your musical experience as wide as possible – this is achieved through playing in various ensembles such as Brass and Woodwind Chamber Music Ensembles, Percussion Ensembles, Wind Orchestra, Brass Band, Big Band, Chamber and Symphony Orchestra and Improvisation. Former students include Adam Walker, flute, Lyndsey Marsh, clarinet, Ruth Dyson, recorder, Angela Barnes, French horn, David Thornton, euphonium, and Katy Pryce, trombone.
"If you're a dedicated musician, there's no better place to spend your youth than at Chets - it really does have everything and more. The skills you learn will last a lifetime, the contacts you make will be invaluable, and the thrill of living and working in a vibrant city centre atmosphere is second to none” Huw Morgan – trumpet
