An Evening of Music at Manchester Cathedral
Chetham’s Brass Band and Big Band perform alongside Tyndale Thomas and the One Voice Community Gospel Choir in this special concert hosted by Mark Chapman from Radio 1. The Brass Band will play classical favourites including the 1812 Overture and sections from Carmen with guest soloist David Thornton, Principal Euphonium of the world famous Black Dyke Band. The Big Band programme completes a varied, exciting evening.

Aural Development, Improvisation and workshops with

Chetham’s is the UK’s host representative for ‘Integrated Teaching Methods’, a unique music pedagogic ‘Transfer of Innovation Project’ in the European Union’s Leonardo Da Vinci programme. From 2007-09 conservatoires, institutions and organisations from eight EU countries are collaborating to offer outreach, research and teaching opportunities in improvisation and aural work entirely free to students, teachers and the general public.


Jilt Jansma, one of the leading trombonists in both Jazz and classical fields, will lead a series of seminars, open workshops, lectures, forums and discussions on improvisation.

Excellent! is a vibrant celebration of the achievement of the country’s most talented young dancers and musicians. On 15 July, over 350 performers from schools and schemes supported by the Department for Children, School’s and Families’ Music and Dance Scheme will come together for the first time ever to perform work that has been created for especially for the event.

Chetham's contribution to the event includes current and former students in performance as well as a fanfare that will open the gala concert composed by Lloyd Coleman.
